Eyes within the sky show hectic activity at Singhu as farmers renew protest call amid Covid crisis

Even as India grapples with the insurmountable second wave of Covid-19 and concerns grow over the farmers’ protest at the borders of Delhi becoming a possible super spreader, satellite imagery shows how the protest site at Singhu has only grown larger with time.There has been over 200 days that farmers are blocking the Singhu border and other areas just outside Delhi to protest the three contentious farm laws. But whilst they continue the fight to urge the govt back to the negotiation table, a more pressing challenge confronts them now within the sort of a second and stronger Covid-19 wave.

While India, and particularly the Capital, is seeing unimaginable losses due to the second wave, farmers’ unions at the Delhi border have refused to vacate the protest sites and are determined to continue the trail of confrontation. In fact, one among the most important farmers’ organisations of Punjab, BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), has involved more people to hitch the protests starting in the week .
